Snowflake in the Spring

So I’ve been playing with the platform Snowflake. There’s the good, the hard, and the ugly. Many prospective employers seem to want some kinds of Snowflake experience so I figured I’d try my hand at their free courses and snag a few badges.

The tool / platform is really amazing. I’ve learned a good amount about it and what it can do and I know that I’ve just started. The data sharing alone is really out of this world, and I can see the possibilities. They do throw some curve balls at you and let you figure a few things out on your own. The instructions even say to use the forums and that changes to the tool happen so often that the training materials can’t keep up! The materials themselves are very impressive as well. The code that is self-checking is neat.

Ok, about the bad… I’m now on the second badge. I did everything to get my first and got a certificate but not a “real” badge. This is because the new software can’t work with the auto-checking I mentioned earlier, so 1 task will remain incomplete! Now in badge 2 I’m stuck right at the finish line because I can’t get 2 accounts to talk to each other in a data sharing scenario. I need a specific privilege that only SF can give - and they don’t to trial users! Others have this issue on the forums too. I can only go so far and then not having passed this part I can’t finish. No badge for me. :(

Some of these questions are difficult and when they leave out the instructions it can get totally weird. They also kept changing the name of a city from Denver to Detroit and messing with me! Some things take time to replicate or be granted, so you get some steam and have to stop for the night. I’m not above asking Claude to help, and even he’s been confused!

I’ll do what I can and see how far I can go. Wish me luck!
